Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Melissa, Janis, Heart. Anything at all by George Strait. Still love Clint Black's first album "Killing Time." (Did nothing really good past that.) Asleep at the Wheel. Woody Herman. Okay, I'm all over the map on this topic. I listen to Randi Rhodes and PBS. (GO SPURS GO! HI TAP DUNCAN. God, can the Spurs pull their heads out of their . . .tonight?) Oh, and "Judy Garland Live at Carnegie Hall" from the early 60s. Don't go there, folks . . .I'm not a gay man. Although I play one on TV . . . Just have to strap the boobs down! Thank God they're not that big!

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow? smile.gif

There is a certain relaxing quality to his music that's difficult to explain.

I strongly suggest this, my friend.

I've been hooked on two types of music lately. The first is called "Nuevo flamenco" or "Flamenco pop":

http://es.music.yahoo.com/launchcast/stations/default.asp (hit the Flamenco pop button). It might be the equivalent of "Hot New Country."

The second type I listen to a lot is XM's "Sur la Route." They play mostly "chanson," which is rally pleasant to listen to. I didn't know many Québec artists until I started listening to this station (102).

Every Saturday morning in Pasadena I would watch Samurai Saturdays on IFC, then switch over to catch Hindi music videos on Namaste America. Here are a couple of examples. Namaste, America!

Wow that's a blast from the past. I have family near Asbury Park, and in 1976 happened to be passing a venue on the boardwalk where they were playing, and ended up standing outside listening for awhile. An underrated band, to be sure....

But to the question...lately it's been two Who albums: Sell Out and Who's Next., and if I had Quadrophenia on CD I'd say I was listening to that too.

Piecing together a playlist of East African music. Came across most of it by accident when one of my poetry videos wound up on a page with some Eritrean videos. (I am still trying to figure out how YT thought there was any relevance.)

These were among my most recent additions to my collection.

Before Bill Champlin took over vocalist and keyboard duties with Chicago, he had a little band of his own based in SF called The Sons of Champlin. This snippet is the only youtube I can find of them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Avg1TunzccQ

Wolfgang's Vault has some of their live concerts available for a listen here:

A great psychedelic/soul/funk band from the day. I saw them 4 or 5 times over the years.

Portishead - Third

Didn't like it on first listen but I'm loving it now. It's definitely a departure from their first two albums. The hard drums are gone, as is the dark melody to a certain degree. Still a great album though

Blu and Exile - Beneath the Heavens

My favorite hip hop albums of 2007. It's a very, very solid debut album imo. Lyrically the album is quite introspective, reminding me of some of my favorite hip hop albums like Nas' Illmatic or Common's Resurrection.

Zero 7 - Simple Things

Great chill music, and even greatest trip hop. The instrumental tracks are just as great as the vocal ones

Little Brother - The Listening

Another great debut album for a hip hop group. Lyrically it's on point, the production is amazing, etc. I don't remember the last time I laughed while listening to a hip hop album either. It's the type of album you nod in agreement with the lyrics as much as you nod to the beats

A Canery ws used to detect gas in the mines. They would lower the birds down in the holes and if the bird came back up and was dead, then they knew that there was natural gas in the mine! I think there is a deeper meaning to this song!

BTW what disease does a canary get????

Love the NIN attitude but sorry I just can't wrap my brain around their sound-so I won't ask to share the headphones on the bus. How about The Struts, the Booze or Candy Apple? Or aren't you willing to listen to the guys who tour in a city surplus van? Eyeliners, Girl In A Coma? Anti Flag, Season of Nightmares Horror Pops? Hard Money Saints James Hunnicutt and The Revolvers? What can I say I'm cheap and DIY union. Oh forgot a great one for both the eyes and ears The Vincent Black Shadow

The trouble is that I don't have a lot of exposure to DIY bands. I try to listen to stuff that's at least legitimate music (NIN, Pearl Jam, Interpol, Stereolab, Portishead, etc), rather than derivative label-driven crap (ahem, Nickelback). I am familiar with Anti Flag, and I dig them when I hear them, but I guess I'm not as much of a revolutionary as I used to be. Oh, I also like Bad Religion. I saw them in concert a few years back. It was a great show, but what pissed me off was that this mall punk band Less than Jake opened, and all these little skater kids started leaving the show before Bad Religion came on. I was like, "hey kids - if it wasn't for bands like Bad Religion, your little mall punk bands wouldn't even exist!"

The Yahoo website is Yahoo Radio, and the one I listed is Yahoo Radio in Spain (they have them for many countries). Once in there, then you pick the pull-down menu for "see all stations" or something like that. In there is the "Flamenco Pop."

However, the YouTube example you gave is an excellent one! That's the type of music they play.

I listen to a lot of internet radio at work...
