I screwed up the first one, hell it's late...early. Whatever. It's an Oldie and a Goodie.

Otis Redding

This works!

Sometimes I feel like outfitting my car with the loudest sound system possible so I can drown out all the rap with "Try a Little Tenderness".

Yeah, that might have been the cover for ' The Secret Hystory of...'

I think it was also one of the inside pics of the special two-page release of 'The Whole Story' (I don't think I have the right phrase here... One of those record covers that opens up so you can see more stuff inside, even though it was a single album.)

This pic is 2 years old, but I think she still has it for being 48 at the time...

Yesterday on the Ovation channel, there were three hours of a show called "Sruth Na Maoille", of Gaelic music - each half hour was a different type, like about the sea, being forced out of their land, love songs, work songs. It had Irish and Scottish and American Celtic-music muscicians playing and singing just around their kitchen tables, or on the porch - harps and fiddles, guitars, etc. it was just beautiful. I recorded all of it on the dvr, which I think really annoyed my husband! laugh.gif I want to see if there is a way to transfer it from dvr to a video or cd.

One of my favorite shows on Ovation was Transatlantic Sessions. Here are a few of my favorites:

Delores Keane and Mick Hanley, My Love Is In America:

Mary Black, Song for Ireland:

Karen Matheson with Donal Lunny and Mairead ni Mhaonaigh of Altan, Canan Nan Gaidheal:

Bruce Cockburn - 'Different When It Comes To You"

My two favorite Bruce Cockburn songs:

Call It Democracy

End Of All Rivers

QUOTE
Padded with power here they come
International loan sharks backed by the guns
Of market hungry military profiteers
Whose word is a swamp and whose brow is smeared
With the blood of the poor

Who rob life of its quality
Who render rage a necessity
By turning countries into labour camps
Modern slavers in drag as champions of freedom

Sinister cynical instrument
Who makes the gun into a sacrament --
The only response to the deification
Of tyranny by so-called "developed" nations'
Idolatry of ideology

North South East West
Kill the best and buy the rest
It's just spend a buck to make a buck
You don't really give a flying fuck
About the people in misery

IMF dirty MF
Takes away everything it can get
Always making certain that there's one thing left
Keep them on the hook with insupportable debt

See the paid-off local bottom feeders
Passing themselves off as leaders
Kiss the ladies shake hands with the fellows
Open for business like a cheap bordello

And they call it democracy
And they call it democracy
And they call it democracy
And they call it democracy

See the loaded eyes of the children too
Trying to make the best of it the way kids do
One day you're going to rise from your habitual feast
To find yourself staring down the throat of the beast
They call the revolution

IMF dirty MF
Takes away everything it can get
Always making certain that there's one thing left
Keep them on the hook with insupportable debt

That was f*ing awesome!!

I can only swing the pendulum of musical styling in a completely different direction following that. If you are not a fan of the banjo - and especially if you are - here is a real treat. Bela Fleck performs Prelude from Bach Violin Partitia #3. If this doesn't move you in some way you have no soul wink.gif http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEtqlfMTL80.

But if classical ain't your thing then watch Bela and Nickel Creek's Chris Thile on mandolin take on Radiohead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7lsCjfKdRY...feature=related

And witness banjo brilliance with Bela, Tony Trischka, and none other than Steve Martin together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixaOZ11b4W4...feature=related
