Me like! Sure sounds like somebody's been spending a lot of time smokin' out and listening to plenty of Eric Johnson and Gary Hoey.

I was very pleased. Finally some really good young musicians.

But now I am hunting Rock Legends, two words

BAD COMPANY
carmenjonze
Jennifer Hudson, self-titled

Interesting production -- Jennifer doesn't need a lot of effects; the less there is, the better she sounds. Excellent job with her signature song, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going". A couple Bacharach tributes in the arrangement, very little effects on the voice.

Duffy

Usually, I have a lot of fun sneering at white artists copying Blacks, but she's doing something interesting with it. I put her in the same category as Dusty Springfield, whom she's referencing, along with all the bleached blondes like Marilyn, Jayne, Madonna, etc.

60s soul updated for the 08. Not bad.

New Jackson Browne CD, Time the Conqueror, downloaded from the evil iTunes.

Love The Drums of War!

QUOTE

THE DRUMS OF WAR

Jackson Browne

Roll out the drums of war
Roll up the cover of the killing floor
Roll out the drums of war
and let's speak of things worth fighting for
Roll out the drums of war

Time comes when everything you ever thought you knew
comes crashing down and flames rise up in front of you

Roll out the drums of war
Roll back the freedoms that we struggled for
What were those freedoms for?
Huh, let's not talk about it anymore
Roll out the drums of war
Roll out the drums of war

Whatever you believe the necessary course to be
depends on who you trust to identify the enemy
Who beats the drums for war
even before the peace is lost?
Who are the profits for
and who are they who bear the cost
when a country takes a whole world to war?

Who gives the orders
orders to torture?
Who gets the no bid contracts of the future?
Who lies then bombs and calls it an error?
Who makes a fortune from fighting terror?
Who is the enemy trying to crush us?
Who is the enemy of truth and justice?
Who is the enemy of peace and freedom?
Where are the courts, now when we need them?
Why is impeachment not on the table?
We better stop them while we are able

Roll out the drums of war
Roll out the drums of war
If you know what your freedom's for
Roll out the drums of war

Whatever you believe the necessary course to be
depends on who you trust to identify the enemy
Who took this country to war
long before the peace was lost?
Who are the profits for
and who are they who bear the cost
when a country takes the low road?

i'm such a huge peter gabriel fan. i remember the first time i heard this song it was with kate bush from the cd "so" and then "secret world tour" came out and i heard paula cole for the first time. i thought she is going to be a huge star and then her very disappointing first cd came out.

but that does not negate just how awesome she sounds in this live song.

don't give up ~ peter gabriel with paula cole,

An oldie but a goodie, Bruce Cockburn:

The Trouble With Normal

QUOTE
Strikes across the frontier and strikes for higher wage
Planet lurches to the right as ideologies engage
Suddenly it's repression, moratorium on rights
What did they think the politics of panic would invite?
Person in the street shrugs -- "Security comes first"
But the trouble with normal is it always gets worse

Callous men in business costume speak computerese
Play pinball with the Third World trying to keep it on its knees
Their single crop starvation plans put sugar in your tea
And the local Third World's kept on reservations you don't see
"It'll all go back to normal if we put our nation first"
But the trouble with normal is it always gets worse

Fashionable fascism dominates the scene
When ends don't meet it's easier to justify the means
Tenants get the dregs and landlords get the cream
As the grinding devolution of the democratic dream
Brings us men in gas masks dancing while the shells burst
The trouble with normal is it always gets worse
