Last night it was the Merle box set, while we played darts and partied!!! I miss Waylon, my father in law gave him his first gig in Scottsdale, AZ at a place he owned called Wild Bill's. My FIL fired him for showing up drunk after a month of fridays, they later reconciled, and he was invited to Waylons memorial tribute, cool to me...

I'm listening to Fred Eaglesmith right now.

I used to say there were only two genres of music I hate, heavy metal and country and western. Then I discovered Fred Eaglesmith, Neko Case and Her Boyfriends, and Corb Lund. Now I say that there's only one genre of music I hate, heavy metal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Eaglesmith:
QUOTE
Fred is a prolific and talented songwriter, and is known for writing songs about machines or vehicles, including songs about trains, tractors, trucks, cars, and engines. Rural life, dogs, guns, drinking and farming/ranching are other common themes. Many of his songs are about failing farms and small businesses.

Eaglesmith's songs are populated with down and out characters dealing with loss of love or livelihood, and quirky rural folk. His songwriting uses many of the techniques of short-story writing, including unreliable narrators, surprise endings, and plot twists.

Fred Eaglesmith - Alcohol & Pills - Live at Sons of Hermann

Fred Eaglesmith - Water In The Fuel

Fred Eaglesmith - The Ottersum Encore

Fred Eaglesmith - It's A Pontiac

For you union folk PLEASE scrap some of our classics and check on Bostons "Street Dogs" This is the real deal, front man's resume reads punk singer who left Dropkick Murphy's (nother great union band) to be a Boston Firefighter, called up to serve in Desert Strom, came back and decided he had MUCH more to say, so after more time in fire house went back to music. Theyre cover of Billy Braggs "Power In A Union" is timeless-though if you have a conservative caucus they might be pissed by lyric "When the GOP send their attorneys out to cheat us". MYSpace them NOW!!

That was fucking great!

God, it's so sad that he died before he could get it all out.
He played better blind than most of us can with eyes. He felt the blues he played because that's what a hard life does, teaches you how to feel.

Thanx for posting that, man. You got me in the groove now. smile.gif

Though we've lost so many great blues guitarists, there is a future. Oh yes, the blues have a future...
