I must disagree with Randi on her comments of Community Colleges.

At my local community college, Sierra College (Rocklin, CA) offers a wide variety of vocational certificates. Anywhere from Agriculture to Welding, and everything in between. I've personally taken 18 units in Cabinet Making. The nursing program is very popular and very difficult to get classes. A person can get re-trained at a Community College, well at least the one I attend.

Community colleges have much to offer. But Palin spent her time bouncing from college to college before finally getting her degree at Idaho State (or U of). She was not a stellar student.

How do you know that she was not a stellar student? Maybe it was because of circunstances? We have to find a better way of attacking Palin. I dont care how many schools she went to she still got her degree. How is randi in a position to criticize sarah for going to so many schools? She use to say that she regrets not going to college. She does not have a degree and she is criticizing someone that has a degree. It took me two schools to get me an associate. It was not because i was a bad student but because coming out of highschool i did know what i wanted to do. so it took me years to really know what career i wanted to get into. I not trying to defend sarah but i am very sensitive about this subject.

A "stellar" student in journalism would know that the "founding fathers" did NOT write the pledge of allegiance.

"Community colleges play an important role in helping people transition between careers by providing the retooling they need to take on a new career."
Barack Obama

But I must defend my Randi: She is right community colleges are not equipped to handle 21st century education needs.

Please don't be offended, Randi did not mean to insult. She was just being realistic and blunt. Try ad-libbing for 3 hours...I couldn't do it, I'd be fired in a week, guaranteed!

I have an AS degree in Business Management from a community college, it was great and I am (belatedly-I'm 47) working on my bachelor's degree.

Somehow I managed to reply to the wrong post (again)! sad.gif

Sacramento City is great too, for music anyway...at the time I went (about 10-12 years ago) they had a state-of-the-art recording studio that was pretty cool. I went for my own casual interest, not a degree, but I loved Sac City. Tons of folks use Sac City, and I'm sure other C. Colleges to transfer to state colleges or other schools. Whatever works, I say.

lol that's ok, it made me feel important. smile.gif

I heard that part of Randi's show hours after this thread began...my take on it wasn't her putting down community colleges at all, but her disgust that McCain would LIMIT veterans to community colleges...like he's saying, "that's all you deserve" or something. The point she was making is hard to get across; I think vets should have a shot at whatever school they want...if they are up for it.

I guess I opened a can of worms. I needed to defend the usefulness of Community Colleges. An employer will look at a simple AA/AS of a potential employee that one who doesn't have an AA/AS. tongue.gif
