When commenting about Obama's victory over Hillary for the Democratic nomination, Palin said, "So, Sambo beat the bitch!" She is described by someone who knows her as "sexist, racist, vindictive, and mean." From LAProgressive.com:

Alaskans Speak (In A Frightened Whisper): Palin Is “Racist, Sexist, Vindictive, And Mean”
September 5, 2008 by Charley James –

“So Sambo beat the bitch!”

This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

According to Lucille, the waitress serving her table at the time and who asked that her last name not be used, Gov. Palin was eating lunch with five or six people when the subject of the Democrat’s primary battle came up. The governor, seemingly not caring that people at nearby tables would likely hear her, uttered the slur and then laughed loudly as her meal mates joined in appreciatively.

“It was kind of disgusting,” Lucille, who is part Aboriginal, said in a phone interview after admitting that she is frightened of being discovered telling folks in the “lower 48” about life near the North Pole.

Then, almost with a sigh, she added, “But that’s just Alaska.”

Racial and ethnic slurs may be “just Alaska” and, clearly, they are common, everyday chatter for Palin.

Great post but keep it brief, post a few paragraphs and link to the rest.

There didn't seem to be very much color at the Repub's convention, does her comment clear the way for people to start saying "retard"? Sorry, that was mean and offensive, I just can't believe that an adult politician, even one that presided over 7000 people would be so insensitive and bigotted.

Yeah, I have to say that if they want into politics that badly then they should start paying taxes like everyone else. Well, except for major corporations.

Actually you do realize that we are the only ones paying taxes don't you? How did that happen? Those of us who make just enough money to get by week by week pay all the taxes and those who have mega millions really barely pay anything.

I know you guys get tired of me preaching against religious organizations, but they and large corporations are running this country. Religious lobbying is being done too...under the radar.
Why do they need faith-based funding? And since when? This country has endured 2 world wars, depressions, droughts, floods, tornadoes, slavery, women's rights, prohibition and the Civil War without the funding for faith-based organizations.
Isn't tax-exemption enough? We have Mega churches, large Mormon Temples. large Catholic and Protestant organizations, etc. Yet, the rate of homelessness increases.
WhyTF should they receive funding when OUR pockets are becoming more empty???

Folx, I'mabout 99% certain that Baptists for Brown site is parody, along the lines of Landover Baptist.

They have a link to Jesus' General, a widely renown liberal satirist. I think (and hope) they are baiting the christian whackos and drawing them out.

It's hilarious.

Here's another Republican hypocrisy: This little "sambo" remark will be floated around, and the RNC will put on their victim drag, screaming from high heaven (pun intended) that it's a lie and you can't prove it. But, of course, they had no problem inventing the whole "whitey" faux-scandal about Michelle. And of course they are still singing that one on Hannity/Limbaugh/Savage every chance they can get.

Yeah, makes me queazy. The author has legit credentials, but what's missing are some named witnesses who support the multiple claims of unnamed sources.

As has been discussed on... er...um other threads, unnamed sources can be and are used in credible reports every day. But the legit reports in an instance like this one will provide one or two people who confirm seeing the same behavior reported by 4,5 or 6 other witnesses who remain unnamed. The CLOSEST he comes is this guy:
QUOTE
“Palin is a conniving, manipulative, a**hole,” someone who thinks these are positive traits in a governor told me, summing up Palin’s tenure in Alaska state and local politics.

“She’s a bigot, a racist, and a liar,” is the more blunt assessment of Arnold Gerstheimer who lived in Alaska until two years ago and is now a businessman in Idaho.

Notice what's missing? What connection is this guy to Palin? Did he work with her? Is he a neighbor? Old boyfriend? Actually, it's worse than that. The report continues:

QUOTE
Juneau is a small town; everybody knows everyone else,” he adds. “These stories about what she calls blacks and Eskimos, well, anyone not white and good looking actually, were around long before she became a glint in John McCain’s rheumy eyes. Why do I know they’re true? Because everyone who isn’t aboriginal or Indian in Alaska talks that way.”

He apparently left the state as or before Palin became governor! Did he live in Walissa? Did he work in City Hall? Has he EVER met her? WhoTF knows?!

See, the author doesn't even claim Gerstheimer spent time with Palin. Gerstjeimer confirms she's a bigot because everyone in Alaska "talks that way."

Then there was a line that surprised me after a charge that anyone caught speaking against Palin would be "disappeared into a gulag north of the Arctic Circle for who-knows-how-long."
QUOTE
Alright, that’s an exaggeration brought on by my getting too little sleep and building too much anger as I worked this article.

We're ALL angered by Palin. But this was a phenomenally unprofessional remark that calls the reporter's work into question.

Finally - though there other causes for concern, I was interested in this "comment" beneath the article:

QUOTE
I’ve live in Alaska for 30 years an NO ONE here uses the term Aboriginal to describe Natives. Certainly Alaskan Natives don’t use it to describe themselves. Lucille can’t be from here if she thinks that Wasilla is near the North Pole.

Racist? Are you kidding me? Her husband is ‘Aboriginal”… “mukluks’ a\is a derogatory term?

For all those reasons, I just don't believe this guy. But maybe SOMEBODY can track down where Palin and this group has this meal on this particular day and find the same waitress. Perhaps she'll say the same thing, and a reporter can do it right.

Until that happens though, this story reeks.

Very good point, but I doubt this will get as much attention. Remember, it was FOX that kept using folks to drop hints about the supposed "Whitey" tape - and then Gerlado interviewed Larry Johnson.

What national outlet would do the same on this story? And McCain's camp isn't going to pound it too much because they basically don't want to put "Sambo" and Palin into the same sentence. That's a little bit like like Richar Gere's attorney issuing s statement "Report that my client puts gerbils up his butt are NOT true."

It WILL be lumped into the big pot of supposed outrages of the "liberal media," but few if any will spell it out.

Just so it's clear, my whole point is that this ia GOSSIP at this point. Just as the "whitey" controversy was gossip of the worst kind. We democrats will take the upper hand and not put "the sambo" rumor in 527 campaign ads etc., unlike the desperate Republicans who did attack the "whitey" rumor.

The Republicans love to campaign on tabloid issues because they don't have solutions for middle class issues -- only solutions to increase corporate-socialism.

Democrats already have the truth on our side: we have real solutions for saving jobs, creating new jobs, solving the trillion dollar deficit, improving education, solving the health care crisis, providing for our returning veterans and renewing our leadership in the world, and on and on.

I can't believe Sarah Palin would say something like that. If she did, That will be another good reason not to vote for McCain and Palin in November. Besides McCain and Palin make a lousy pair anyway.

Palin is saying these things so she'll get attention. Oh She'll get attention all right, and it be turning to Obama and Biden in 2008.
