Just crap on TV anyway. I will probably spend my time with friends at the cafes when the Lakers are on- the only time I watch TV.

We can get GoldStar events tickets for local theater entertainment rather than waste it on teevee.

Well, until gas went up to $4.00 a gallon - we planned on buying a converter for 1 set. Guess we'll get what we need on the 'Net. We have to go there for our news as it is.

I haven't found anything on TV worth spending that kind of money on a set for. Seriously, the worse the programming gets, the more money it costs. What's the point of that.

I would pull the plug if I didn't have a housemate who watches once in a while.

Can't live without the Daily Show...

I have satellite, so the converter box does the work.

We have satellite, so it's all good. I only watch documentaries od KO, so it's not a neccesity, unless the Bears are on, then the wife has to have the TV.

Sony Grand Wega HD, got it a couple years ago

The TV converter costs just $9.87 at WalMart with the coupon. The two stores near me are out of stock and they don't sell it online at walmart.com.

I'm shopping for one for the TV on rabbit ears in the basement. I may subscribe to cable for the main TV ustairs since it will continue to broadcast analog into 2012 and postpone a major conversion at our house. We intend to move to a new area around 2012 where cable is required anyway so once we see where our main TV will go I'll buy a new big screen to match that room, along with the necessary recording devices.

We have three VCRs hooked up right now. Two are on the main TV (roof antenna) so my wife and I can tape different shows of our personal preference simultaneously, and I also have one on the TV downstairs for when two shows I want are on simultaneously. (I watch everything but the news on tape.)

Because the output of the TV converter box is a single channel, that puts a crimp in timeshift recording of sequential shows on different broadcast channels. That's why I'm considering cable.

life is too short to say I wont do this or I wont do that...tv has offered me many hours of pleasure over my lifetime, probably too many laugh.gif

to all you NO tv folks, you might wanna consider a HI DEF tv and a BLU RAY player so as to watch movies, the quality is simply stunning, but you will want some speakers to go along with it...
DonShafer
I still live in a lo-def world. I have a 100 mile a day round trip commute to pay for.

I'm regressing. With my recent move I decided to spring for the cable internet, but no cable TV. It frees up a lot of time for me and even though I originally had planned to wait a couple months to catch up on bills and then add cable now I may not get it at all.

I haven't really watched many movies since the DVD conversion. I have nothing but trouble with DVD players and have basically give up.

I do take them into work every once in a while to watch there, but not much since we went to 8 hour Saturdays instead of 10 1/2 hour Saturdays.

I have too many books I still need to read and right now I have too much homework. It gets too easy to plop myself down in front of the TV instead of cleaning the house, doing the laundry or doing my homework.

But that's me, I know a lot of people who enjoy their television and wouldn't want to live without it. I personally think once it is out of the house I'll do just fine.

In all things moderating Rottmom. smile.gif

Pop the Seven Samurie into the blue ray, click on the Bose, open a Sierra Nevada and just........relax.

Not too shabby. tongue.gif

I work enough and study enough and read enough, there has to be a time that is just.....good.

Anyone try a digital projector? They always have such a nice picture inside the stores, but I'd be interested if anyone has one set up for a large picture. What kind of quality are you getting?

I have been watching satellite TV on my computer for years. I have at present a 19 inch for my computer time, but the 32 inch LCD with multiple inputs can also run the computer, the satellite, and now the Tivo. I find myself watching the Tivo being that it records my favorite programs and I can watch them at my convenience. When I kick back in bed, the 32 inch goes on. With computer inputs, I can anytime record to the hard drive anything. The Tivo also does it for me but it is hooked up to the internet, and knows more about the schedule than I ever could.

Hubby and I bought a HP Pavilion Media Center TV PC, a 19" LDC, and stereo speakers last year, hooked up to the internet, and donated our old television.

We didn't plan to stop watching TV, it just happened. Not only is hard to find something worth watching, my husband yells at the commercials, which is incredibly annoying! rolleyes.gif

I take college courses online, my husband reads at least 2 novels a month, we stream Nova M, and watch DVD's.
Jymiek
We're on cable right now but we're in the process of moving and I think cable isn't available there so we'll have to go back to satellite. We won't need the box but I have two 40 dollar coupons sitting here if anyone wants them.. I know I know they're free but you won't have to go through the government to get them..

Moderation is not my strong point. But I watch television more as an escape than anything else. Well, an escape and as a background noise so the dogs don't bark at every little sound all night long. I also leave the television on for Roxy if we are going to get thunderstorms while I'm at work. She does fine if she doesn't hear all the thunder or if what she hears isn't really loud. TV does drown it out a bit for her.
RandiLover
The sharpeis I had when we had thunder, would get mad. They don't like things they don't understand, they wish to bite it. So I would just pet them and tell them its ok and they would quit growling.

People still watch TV?

ohmy.gif

I've tried, I've really tried? Like you said, "crap".
TV has become the MSG of entertainment, it only fills empty space.
MavericksHMB
My teevee has become a dust magnet and over-sized paperweight. I haven't watched teevee for 2 years. Don't miss it, either. Stuff I want to see, I can find on the web in clips or full-length programs. I'll watch FRONTLINE and Moyers on line instead of firing up the dust magnet. Like Cap'n and someone else said, the programming nowdays is all crap.

Cspan is the best and Moyers, and it can all be found on the net. I know I have more headaches since turning the cable back on (after 2 years of no tv). Seriously I will probably have to disengage again for health's sake.

Though it has has been fun watching Chris Matthews' hair suddenly reappear and change color!! biggrin.gif

And everybody's right - the programming just gets worse - not enough bang for my buck. And I tend to be a cheap bastid. cool.gif

But the worst part of it all the past few months of cable? Is when I can't get to the mute fast enough to block the sickening, insulting commercials.

But I'm not there to pet her or do anything for her, which is why I leave the TV on to at least lessen the noise of the thunder.

She's not half as bad as Damien was. Poor Damien would freak out so bad at times that I'd come home and find him cowering under the computer table. For the entire month of July I'd have to go outside with him at night because the kids up the street always seemed to know when I'd let him out and they'd start shooting off fireworks and I'd have to coax him out from under the porch for the next 45 minutes. On July 4th, at sunset, I'd have my TV up so loud that I couldn't stand to be in the same room with it in order to drown out all the fireworks. I'd have to leave it that way until almost 3 in the morning some years.

It really sucked, I hated the summer months.

I watch TV very little. the g/f watches it more. But we will upgrade in the next 2-3 months. I have the set figured out:

42" Vizio
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?...&lang=en-US

I will have to fuss around with Comcast on the HD Digital player, programming, etc. I doubt I will go with a DISH
Christine
When I finally moved in with my beloved last year he spoiled me with a Samsung - 52" 1080p 120Hz Flat-Panel LCD HDTV with BluRay DVD player and The Planet Earth Box Set. I love watching National Geo and nature shows...and movies...and Keith and hockey! love the Avs on high def smile.gif He watches sports....not much of a tv person myself, I love my computer though!
AjaxMinoan
When this thing goes down we won't be able to watch TV at work until our company forks out some money.

I've resisted cable for years, regrettably the only way to get C-SPAN.Until I found out you can even get C-SPAN3 on the internet.I will miss Frontline and Bill Moyers Journal .

The damn converter boxes don't work! The only channel I watch is my local CBS station. No matter what I do all I get is
NO SIGNAL! I have spent $12 on the box after the $40 voucher. Then $10 more dollars for a UHF/VHF antenna and I still can't get the signal. I think it's a conspiracy to sell televisons. I could spend anywhere from $10-60 dollars and are not guaranteed to make it work.

I bought a TV 9 years ago and it still works! So I guess next year I will be watching DVD's instead of David Letterman!

They have flipped the switch. A friend has it already. Like about 20 stations.
FanFiltration
I have a HD digital T.V., but I only use it for DVDs and Blu-Ray discs. I like to program what I watch, not let someone program me.
SickupandFed
I am basically cheap. I haven't had cable in my house since '95.

I will have to buy the box but want to wait on the set.

Sh*t it's only a TV.
