QUOTE
One member of the New Right, Republican Strategist Paul Weyrich, founded the Heritage Foundation in 1973 -- a think tank to promote the ideas of the New Right. Weyrich also founded ALEC, The American Legislative Exchange Council in 1973 to coordinate the work of Religious Right state legislators. ALEC initially positioned itself as a counterweight to liberal foundations and think tanks, focusing on social issues like abortion and the Equal Rights Amendment, but became a magnet for corporate lobbyists.

ALEC gives business a direct hand in writing bills that are considered in state assemblies nationwide. Funded primarily by large corporations, industry groups, and conservative foundations -- including R.J. Reynolds, Koch Industries, and the American Petroleum Institute -- the group takes a chain-restaurant approach to public policy, supplying precooked McBills to state lawmakers. Since most legislators are in session only part of the year and often have no staff to do independent research, they're quick to swallow what ALEC serves up. In 2000, according to the council, members introduced more than 3,100 bills based on its models, passing 450 into law. Ghostwriting the Law, Karen Olson, Mother Jones, Sept.Oct. 2002

In 1979 Weyrich coined the term "Moral Majority." Their goal was to politicize members of fundamentalist, Pentecostal and charismatic churches - a constituency that had been basically apolitical.

Heritage Foundation, Free Congress Foundation

Paul Weyrich, president of Free Congress, has had an extensive history with the Religious Right and is often referred to as the father of the Religious Right.

"The New Traditonalist Project" has a "manifesto" which aggressively outlines a battle plan to build up cultural conservatives and their institutions and asserts that the "...[Cultural Conservative] movement must serve as a force of social intimidation... we must be feared, so that they will think twice before opening their mouths."

"We make no apologies for supporting the basis for our nation. For those who would say that our Judeo/Christian tradition is on a par with other religions we ask that the record be examined."

"The Ten Commandments should be posted - both in schools for students to follow, and in courtrooms for citizens and the judiciary - as a deterrent to unethical behavior. The Commandments can be a reminder that gives people of all ages and backgrounds the strength to act responsibly and morally."

Also from the Free Congress Foundation:

"The Restore the Commandments Project may be the last opportunity to demonstrate to the Congress and the Administration and even the Judiciary that we are serious about America being a nation based on the Judeo/Christian understanding of morality." Jill S. Farrell, Director of Communications, Free Congress Foundation

Sorry to nitpick but Weyrich is not a disciple of Rushdoony. Christian Reconstructionism and so-called "dominionism" (a lot of people on this board are misusing the term) are related in goals but differ in theology and historical development.

The missing link to Weyrich's plan, laid out in a book called The New Right: We're Ready to Lead is Richard Viguerie, who started to throw tantrums against the neocon right around 2005-2006 and has since become a very vocal Libertarian Party operative.

The idea was to match up antigay/antiabortion/antifemist Catholics with antigay/antiabortion/antifeminist Fundamentalists and Evangelical Protestants to make a voting bloc, which would then be matched up with the people we now call "neocons". Moral Majority, Christian Coalition, "values voters"...they all hate and resent each other.

Sarah Palin and others like Bobby Jindal, and to some extent Condi Rice, are their crowning glories. Some of the most vicious and visibly corrupt people in this entire country.

Media Transparency/Cursor has a TON on Richard Viguerie: http://mediatransparency.com/personprofile.php?personID=125

Strictly speaking, you're right, but while not a direct disciple, he's down with the program.

I paint them with a broad brush because that's how you paint simple things. biggrin.gif

Rushtooney> Gary Noth> Public schools are the bastions of Satan

Why do you think they were so psyched to wipe New Orleans off the map?

In that chaos they could gut the teacher's union eliminate all the good, committed teachers with experience and replace them with young teachers whom they could pay poverty wages, and divert public money to private religious charter schools that will abusively indoctrinate a new generation of innocent children into becoming the science-averse, ignorant Republicans of the future.

(spelling corrected)

Gary North, being the creature from Lew Rockwell, that people listen to, just because he keeps squawking about war with Iran.

What they don't understand is he wants it, he just doesn't want it launched by neocons, more by cons like his own faction.

Well, yes and no. These differences mean the world to them. We can exploit them, and I think we should.

Ex: rubbing Evangelical's noses in the fact that Sarah Palin doesn't have any particular theological loyalties than one can pin down. They don't like that at all. There's a word for it: "church hopper".

I think we should use it when appropriate.
