2. Corporate Media (our media likes sensational headlines, not to mention access to the WH in order to be credible, and both come when they give more positive press to republicans. Then there are those nifty corporate tax breaks republicans like to give out. If they questioned the nonsense that comes out of Bush's WH, we'd be in much better shape as a country today. But they don't.)
So this is all they've got.
I've already decided to give up on the mainstream media. Lately I've been watching election coverage from the BBC. I find it much MUCH better. In fact, today they're beginning their US08 bus trip across the country and interviewing average americans to see what they believe the issues really are. The first story was really good - about a small business worker who's going bust. Then just after they had their Washington correspondent on with the anchor. Here's a quote of one of the observations he made regarding the big deal the Republicans made about the pig/lipstick comment:
"It's quite extraordinary that the party that prides itself on red meat, red neck and macho rhetoric is hanging the accusation of sexism around the only candidate in this race who seems to be in touch with his inner woman and that's Barak Obama."
Then the correspondent answered with:
"Every minute we're talking about cosmetics and barnyard animals is a minute we're not talking about the issues that are important to the American people."
It was both refreshing and sad. Refreshing that there are still media outlets in America that still believe in journalism and sad that I'm relying on the British for my news now.
