I just cannot bear this another minute! Ya know, back in 2004, I swore I'd leave the country if Bush were re-elected. Then after listening to many folks, decided that the "American" and "Patriotic" thing to do would be to stay and fight for my democracy, so I hung in there and ratcheted up my activism.
Here we are four years later and much to my dismay and disgust, it seems my Democratic party has learned NOTHING from the past eight years. Rovian politics is simple Lee Atwater regurgitation. 1. Attack your opponent's strengths not their weaknesses, 2. Co-opt their message, 3. React with screeching, righteous indignation whenever your opponent says anything not strictly related to policy, 4. Figure out how to get your BS out in every news cycle, and 5. Lie your ass off. Either there is an ivory tower mentality within the party that feels they know best no matter what or they are just too plain fucking stupid to win an election, let alone rule a country. Oh, we Democrats, progressives, liberals, radicals, etc... are just so smug, aren't we? We are intellectually, morally, spiritually and politically superior to those Republican cretins. We are so superior in fact, that we don't even need to dignify their attacks with a response. We'll keep above the fray, take the high road, fight the good fight all the way to an embarrassing defeat in November. Enough, I say. Enough Barack! What do you want? To be remembered as a nice loser or save the goddamned country from fascistic annihilation? I just can't watch this replay of 2004 anymore. And to hell with patriotism, if McCain is elected in November, count me another ex-patriot. I've simply had enough.

Yeah, there won't be much left to be proud of except a bunch of racist repugs, eating dogburgers, while decking out their rust-bucket trailer homes with Chinese import red, white and blue bunting.

Beware, though: BushCo has made it so that you will have to pay The Exit Tax on your assets if you want to take them out of the country...

It's just too painful......Im not unrealistic, 2which is part of the reason I believe that leaving the country is probably the only path back to sanity. Baja California, here I come!

I'm not so sure that leaving is a good idea. The US economy will collapse in 2010 and the US will break up just like the old USSR. Some regions will do better. Move to those regions and squat in large enough numbers to purge out the Republicans. Learn from history and do what the old Soviet Ethnic regions did after break-up.

Better go before they finish the fence. They're not building it to keep the Mexicans out, you know.

I am with you. The Dems are just not getting it. Am also looking to leave as a McCain will ensure fascism, and I guarantee you the economy WILL collapse in with the next 4-6 years. Time to make an exit strategy because the Dems are not going to figure this out, again.

Hey, All... Newbie here.

I've been reading the forums for about a year and a half, but finally got off my duff to join the crowd.

Just wanted to put in my two cents on this as well The wife and I decided a few months ago to move out of the country if we get another Repub Pres and have debated where we would go. Canada was looking good for a while until the PM there disbanded Parliment because there weren't enough conservatives in there for his liking.

Now we're looking at possibly New Zealand or Australia, though I'm not as familier with their politics. I've always thought about Scotland, but the food scares me. laugh.gif

Oooo. That sounds nice. I'll bring it up to the wife.

Thanks, Roy! (You fellow Portlander!)

Of course, we'd have to sell everything we own in order to move, but all we need are airplane tickets (I hope), and possible job opportunities.

I think there might be some civil unrest if Obama isn't elected... after everything that's going on... it'll be obvious fraud.

I've thought about that too. All the more reason for us to make sure Barack wins!

There's another answer:

Ditch the map, we Canadians will allow you in as our 11th province, but we're proud of our country so the name Canada stays. How about Canada and its protectorates; you guys could be like our Puerto Rico.

But all joking aside my heart goes out to all the progressives in your country, the chasm between your two groups seems to be infinite and poor Obama appears to have been sucked in to this black hole while trying to unite these two solitudes. I don't think any type of bipartisanship is possible in the US; this was clearly illustrated by the republican reaction to Sarah Palin. She was the excuse they needed to drop any pretense at being reasonable and wrap themselves in a distorted and bastardized Christianity which would be unrecognizable in any other country.

I still hope for all your sakes that Obama can win in November, but he certainly has a hard road ahead. One of his most difficult roadblocks, though was apparent even before Palin's nomination; looking at the Gallup poll in early August I was shocked to discover that among non-Hispanic white voters he only had 38% of committed voters. Saddly it appears that racism is still alive and healthy in your country; Palin has just given a lot of people an excuse to finally openly indulge in their prejudices.

Good luck, keep fighting and remember its not over till the lipsticked pig squeals.

I like the look of that!
But I don't think Canada wants us!!
NoYards
No we don't really ... even you lefty Democrats are far too right wing for the average Canadian ... hell, even our current right wing government would fit somewhere to the left of the Democrats on many, probably the majority, of issues ... but we're still pulling for you. biggrin.gif

Also, someone asked about Australia and New Zealand ... IMO Australia is further to the right than Canada, even with Canada's current Conservative government, but not that far ... New Zealand, I'm not sure. I think it's a more like Canada run by the Liberals, but that's just my "impression" at the moment.

If I were to want to move out of Canada I would look to Denmark, Finland, or one of the "socialist" countries in that area.
