What's sad, Randi, is the American public is:

A. Buying it.

B. Too stupid not to.

That's what's sad.

Even more is that McCain and the republican party has informed us that the 2nd best person in their party, the 2nd most qualified, experienced person with the 2nd best judgment,

is

Sarah Palin...how could anyone vote for a party that is admitting this?

And if she isnt the 2nd best what in the fuck is she doing on the ticket?

Why does anyone actually think that?

Because the media told you he's losing in the polls?

Polls which were methodologically flawed because they oversampled Republicans?

The vast majority of America is with Barack.

I hope you're right, but last week, I bought a book titled Just How Stupid Are We?: Facing the Truth About the American Voter by Rick Shenkman

I haven't finished it but the case he makes is very sad. No one reads a newspaper anymore, twice as many people can name all 5 Simpsons than can name 2 rights in the Bill Of Rights and on and on and on.

Need I say more? OK, I will.

People are obsessed with celebrity and reality TV (there's nothing real about it) yet have no interest in the politics which affects them.

The current administration is taking away civil rights that have existed for well over 200 years, yet half the country doesn't care.

The price of gas, food, heating oil and most everything that gets delivered with gas has gone through the roof, and yet half the country doesn't care.

McCain has lied, lied, lied, yet half the country believes him.

People voted GW into office in 2000 (maybe they didn't but he got in anyway), and the voted for him AGAIN in 2004.

I could go on but I'm preaching to the choir.

What case can you make that the majority of Americans are smarter than this? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I just love facts, and I wish I there were some that could refute these.

Compare our collective political intelligence to a lot of European countries and and makes me want to become an Ex-Pat. And half of Americans hate Europeans. Look at the reaction to Obama's visit to Berlin. They see his greatness and yet half of America is pissed about it.

That's my point.

No they DON'T.

80% of the people are on our side, maybe 10% are too stupid to make up their mind or too uninformed to know the difference, and the remaining 10% are the straight up LOONS who would back the Republican Party even if George Bush, John McCain, and Sarah Palin were spitting babies on pikes on the White House lawn.

I sincerely hope you're right.

Thanks for the encouragement.

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

It stops working when you show people who the Nazis are, and what the end of that road looks like.

And the end of the road is covered in dead bodies.
