Contrition after 300 inflammitory posts + 11 new ones was not contrition.

I appreciate your humanity towards him, but this "is a board of rules, not men..." Realize he could have just as easily said something about you and your child like he did about carmenjonze. Something to the effect of: the world is overpopulated, so you should euthanize your child. How would you feel then?

I really and truly try to turn a cheek. This world is so full of hate and bitterness that I do my whatever I can to not make the situation worse. I try to lead by example by not getting caught up in those types of battles. I spent my late teens/early twenties acting like Jesse has acted on this board. A lot of messed up crap happened to me and I was acting out. I was mean and angry and pissed at the world. I grew up and starting learning about forgivness and accepting things that we can't change. I took control of my life and became a better person. People aren't just mean for no reason for the most part. I think about what has happened to a person to make them they way they are. I try to understand them instead of getting on their level. From the PMs that I have received from him, he seems sincere in his apology.

I admire your outlook. I used to try to do that, then I started going to message boards. I find it much harder to be compassionate with people who do and say things just to start trouble or be mean to others. So you might want to limit your time on message boards.

Of course, you could very well be a better, stronger person than I. Many people are.

I am nothing without my principles therefore I think I am safe to be here and stay the same person. What would have become of me if there weren't a few people in my life to bring me out of my darkness??? They didn't give up and neither will I.

Just remember, some people are that way because they lack the ability to empathize with others. Those are the ones who are not redeemable.

Maybe it is a function of age, Kaydensmommy(I graduated H.S. the year you were born); but I refuse to suffer fools at all anymore. Again, I hope the world doesn't spoil your worldview.

I am married to my ideals... I am young so I still have the luxury of them. I understand that Jesse was a HRC lover without wanting to look at the facts. I think that people on this board are well educated and do not tolerate people with conviction without the facts to back them up. But how many people do we turn off completely with our "intellectual superiority." Don't get me wrong... we are superior no doubt about.... but we can't rub their noses in it... we don't win anyone to our cause when we do. Based on the merits of his arguements, I do not support him. It was when I saw people... hell even gay people.... make inflamatory statements about his sexuality is when I jumped on his team and started supporting him. Once I showed him empathy.... he mellowed.... he was really a sweet kid once you cut through the BS.

Ah, no. Sociopaths and psychopaths cannot learn empathy. However, they generally present themselves as very nice people in the beginning. But they lack something in their physical makeup that prevents them from being able to understand how other people feel.

I can hope, but I also have to adhere to reality.

You don't have to be criminally insane to be a psychopath or sociopath. Many of them function quite well in society without killing anybody. I'm sure you've noticed them. They're the kind of people who don't care who they backstab, or use, in their quest to climb the corporate or social ladder.

You really are a nice lady.
I can respect and appreciate that.
But after eight years of the Bush Royalist regime and six years of arguing with smug, self-righteous Freepers and Ditto-Heads I'm not tolerant of people who deride Liberal/Progressive patriots in favor of supporting greedy corporations and fascist ideology. I've lost my taste for that kind of person and I'd rather not see them foment apathy with their words of suppression. If it were up to people like Jessy BB we'd be living in a feudal system run by the idiot sons of the rich. Any American who is worth the title knows that our country was founded by enlightened individuals who were fleeing the oppression of Kings and wealthy land owners. Right now the Bush administration has re-educated a great number of "Americans" into thinking that the well-to-do have the best interest of the general population at heart when nothing could be further from the truth.

Can't say that I have actually. I make conscience choices in the type of places I work and socialize. I work for a small company that treats their employees like family.... I socialize jam band concerts were everyone seems to get along.... I don't go to bars.... I hang with like minded peeps. I guess the closest I get to a sociopath is in my car during rush hour.

And that's why it's a good thing you're here. There are never enough moms to go around. groovy.gif

Look, it is seldom that my ire is directed away from its rightful targets (the neocon corporatists, the DLC enablers, and their soul-sucking minions in the media boardrooms) long enough to do more than put someone on Ignore and leave it at that. Am sure there are plenty here who have my tomfoolery on Ignore, which is what the feature is there for. It's the main reason for the pix and links that am increasingly favoring in this board's incarnation, worth a thousand words and all that. Nor does it really bother me when being attacked, it's a badge of honor in some instances.

However, the memory of countless too many friends, colleagues, co-workers, and my partner all fallen to the plague, and the decades spent railing against hatred of gays on this planet doesn't incline me to overlook someone who either doesn't comprehend how many millions died before them to give them the relative freedom of sexual identity they profess to celebrate, which is just sad, or is attempting to co-opt the identity of my tribe, my genus, my gender, to infiltrate this board and cause division, which is untenable. Won't do it, won't go there, will kiss the board good-bye before I do, and I'm happy to see that poster and their Lamb Chops gone. Because if the rules apply to those who follow 'em, they'd certainly better apply to those who don't, or anarchy will descend into meaninglessness quicker than Joan Rivers' latest face lift.

Which is why I warned you that some people can't care about what they do to others. Because nice people like you won't see the sociopath coming when they do. Its nice to trust others and believe that everyone can attain a peaceful and friendly demeanor. However, when you trust too much you easily become a victim and I don't want that to happen to you.

We need all the nice people we can get. I remember the day I went after someone for railing on a newbie, calling them a troll, just because they didn't agree with what the newbie posted. It was a simple, harmless question and the member went ballistic.

The board isn't as mean as it once was. Its tamed down a bunch, trust me. But politics and the internet tend to bring out some of the individuals who get off on provoking others to anger. That's where the mod team comes in, to try to give the real members, the ones who want to talk, discuss, argue and learn, the opportunity to do so without these people disrupting and causing problems.

There are many things that happen behind the scenes that the membership doesn't see or know about because we won't/can't discuss them with you out of concern for the privacy of others. Rest assured, people do not get banned lightly and many times they have been given second, third, four and fifth chances before they are.

We can't have one person disrupting the entire board and membership. But neither are we totalitarians in our actions.

Maybe he was, but we can't allow someone to disrupt the board simply because they might be young and stupid. The problem with the internet is that I don't know if you are who you say you are. You don't know if I am who I say I am. And young and stupid is not a good defense. I work at a major University. I see the college age individual a lot. Some are young and stupid, but many really are aware that their actions produce consequences and if they break the rules, they will be punished in some way, shape or form.

Those who haven't figured that out, usually find out the hard way.

So make sure that child you love learns that actions have consequences so that when they go away to college, they don't get kicked out because they were young and stupid and decided to participate in a drunken riot. Or go out on their 21st birthday and drink so much they die of poisoning. Or get drunk, lay down in the middle of a dark road in the middle of the night and get run over.

I could go on, but I won't. If Jess learns nothing else I pray he learns that actions have consequences. This is a very mild way to learn it. I know of much harder ways that it took others to learned this lesson. Some will never get that chance.

For the same reason that malicious posters get banned:

QUOTE
2) There will be no personal attacks or threats against other board members. If you disagree with another member's facts, focus on the fact not the person who posted it. Racist, sexist, Anti-Semitic remarks, or hate speech will not be allowed. Calling a member 'troll' or using 'troll' or similar emoticons is considered a personal attack, as is calling another member 'Republican' or similar terms that might be considered offensive on a liberal board. Stick to discussion of the issues. Please do not use excessive foul language on the board.

If it gets mean, personal or out of control then we will close threads. As a rule we don't encourage "memorial" threads but as long as people behave and maintain, there is no problem.

Does that make it better? I suggest if you find it offensive, don't read it. We are aware this thread exists, trust me.

If it gets mean, personal or out of control then we will close threads. As a rule we don't encourage "memorial" threads but as long as people behave and maintain, there is no problem.

Does that make it better? I suggest if you find it offensive, don't read it. We are aware this thread exists, trust me.

Yeah, I noticed you lurking earlier this afternoon.

I remember peek-a-boo, pain in my ass-a boo!!!

Peek a Boo is now QBC and has been spending a lot of time arguing with Ishamel and the rest of us in the FISA thread.

I have all the respect in the world for the moderators... Obviously, I am far too soft to make the tough decisions.... You guys have to make decisions that accomplish the greatest good for the greatest number. I hope he did learn something... and I would be very disappointed in my son if he acted like Jesse.

I agree. The mods here are more than fair and more than patient with members like Jess. Yet, I saw something in Jess salvageable. I think he was young, madly in love with Hillary, grieving over her loss and not quite comfortable with his public airing of his sexual preference.

Though, last night I think I had him on board with supporting Obama and realizing what was at stake in this election. Maybe I am delusional but I have been at this a long time so I don't think so.

Being a mod is a hard thing. I am a mod on three boards at another site and sometimes you have to make judgment calls you don't like on posters, even if you like them. If they insist breaking the laws clearly laid down, then you have to enforce the rules regardless, for the sake of the membership as a whole. I understand this completely.

Some can't play by the rules and sometimes they have to go. It is their own undoing, quite frankly.
