"Gov. Sarah Palin's home church is promoting a conference that aims to convert gays into heterosexuals through the power of prayer.

The Wasilla Bible Church included an insert in its latest worship bulletin promoting a conference by Focus on the Family, a national Christian fundamentalist organization.

The group is conducting the "Love Won Out" Conference in Anchorage, about 30 miles from Wasilla.

Palin, campaigning as Republican John McCain's running mate, has not publicly expressed a view on the so-called "pray away the gay" movement.

Wayne Besen is founder of the New York-based Truth Wins Out, a gay rights advocacy group.

Besen says he believes the McCain campaign will lose gay Republican voters if Palin supports efforts like the prayers to convert gays.

Besen is calling on Palin to publicly express her views."

Americans will be happy about a government that officially hates gays...

It cant be any clearer that these people hate gays, so a vote for mccain/palin is a hate vote, for sure...

Looking forward to my new reality shows...

laugh.gif well that WAS pretty funny!

This thing with her church is interesting because, remember in Palin's interview, when asked about homosexuality being genetic or learned or whatever, she got REAL uncomfortable and said she wasn't going to answer that, that she had no idea and that she knew a lot of people who had diverse ways of living, and she wasn't going to go there. If we could take her transparently there, that was pretty cool. I wonder what motivated her to say that? I got the impression that she is close to some people who are gay and she didn't want to hurt their feelings - but then again she could have simply been told to avoid the subject. It wasn't the avoidance that I found curious, it was her explanation of the people she knows - like she really meant it.

On turning gays straight, I have to wonder, how many gay folk can there be in Wasilla? I think they would get more folk by trying to get meth heads to go straight.

How will Sarah feel about her daughter going to HELL, according to the Assembly of God?!

"Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, has been made an example because of her out-of-wedlock pregnancy and premarital sexual relations.

Sarah Palin's own church of conversion offers no backing down on teen pregnancy or sex outside of marriage.

The Assemblies of God doctrine, not given to moral equivocation, states boldly:

"The Bible further teaches that those who participate in sexual immorality (i.e.: premarital and extra-marital sex) cannot inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; 15-20). Consequently, they are destined for eternity without Him (Galatians 5:19-21; Revelation 21:8)."

Palin has firm personal and political belief in Abstinence Only --the private and public policy stance she holds for her citizenry in Alaska and ultimately all America's youth.

Palin's position on this sexual topic, alone, galvanizes her credentials for V P for James Dobson and morals-first right wing Christian conservatives--the absolutely the essential voting block McCain/Palin must control and energize in order to win the election.

The personal and denominational standards Sarah Palin holds for herself and her family is part of her sacred right, freedom of religion. However, going against the realities of human behavior and science to make a church doctrine (enforced by the threat of Hell) into public policy is pure nonsense

Using the coercive powers of government's police force to enforce a sectarian/doctrinally driven sex education and health policy is invasive of personal freedoms and spawns more STD's and AIDs leading to dire health problems for individuals and staggering costs for our existing health care systems and services.

The personal and denominational standards (Assemblies of God church discipline) Sarah Palin holds for herself and her family is her sacred right under freedom of religion and conscience, going against the wider realities of global human behavior and known science and hygiene to make a church doctrine--enforced by the threat of Hell--public policy is patient nonsense.

Has Bristol confessed to God her "sexual immorality" for performing premarital sex?

Bristol’s only hope to save her eternal soul is to repent and seek forgiveness according to Sarah Palin’s church of upbringing, the Assemblies of God.

Simply marrying her baby’s father is not the way to salvation, and does not remove her damnation. Only godly repentance will suffice. Marriage at this stage, while socially acceptable, it is not theologically pardoning and redemptive from eternal damnation under Assemblies of God dogma and discipline.

It’s clear that if Bristol is currently having sex prior to her upcoming marriage, with her baby’s father, she would not be displaying "genuine repentance(a change of heart and turning to the righteous ways of God.)" And in case, God forbid, Bristol should die an untimely death without "genuine repentance," she’d go straight to Hell.

One more time for the record, SP is more than just AG. She attends or has attended a Bible Church (Wasilla Bible Church), a Church on the Rock (Wasilla Church on the Rock), a Christian Center (Juneau Christian Center) and Wasilla Assembly of God, which appears to be a RENEGADE, Latter Rain/Third Wave congregation (AG officially considers Latter Rain to be heretical).

It's been falsely reported, by people unfamiliar with these circles (I think starting with an AP article), that Juneau Christian Center is "Assemblies of God". Christian Centers are NOT AG, they are what they say they are, which is a "non-denominational" denomination called, simply, Christian Centers. Christian Centers are Charismatic/neo-Pentecostal, typically with Word of Faith leanings.

"Word of Faith" is a postwar theological movement that actually has its roots in Transcendentalism and proto-New Age, and could be a thread of its own.

It seems that in her public life, she has no particular theological loyalties, describing herself as a "bible-believing christian" who attends "non-denominational" churches. Rather generic (I think it's calculated). It's making the whacko christian right crazy.

There are many instances of moral hypocrisy in her immediate family -- that we know of, who knows what else is out there and what is yet to be revealed. I just don't think trying to nail her down using AG dogma is going to work, because she's not really AG. One major issue in trying to pin this stuff down is, the vast majority of what one finds written online about these "non denominational"/neo-Pentecostal/Charismatic churches is actually polemics and screeds written by competing Christian groups. The internet is littered with them.

This is just a guess but she probably just goes to all these places for political expediency, anyway.

If Gay orientation is just a matter of choice, then it seems to me that a homosexual could take over a town and order everyone (Religious Right Republicans included) to be Gay.

Isn't that what Republicans are trying to do to Gays? Aren't Republicans crafting laws to make it hard for Gays to work and live in peace?

I know that if an engineer gets a job at some US military contractors, they have to have an electrode attached to their male part while shown erotic Gay pictures, to see if there is any stimulus. If that becomes the norm for a job in America, I think that all of our rights will be diminished.

We have to speak out now for the few who have lost their rights before we become one of the vast hoards who lose rights later.

Some members of the Religious Right are probably teetering on the edge of sexual identity, and, for them, it is just a slight matter of choice to choose to be male or female. The late Reverend Jerry Falwell comes to mind. Falwell, I think, was somewhat Gay, himself, but he suppressed it. Just what does it take for a man like Falwell to look at a teletubby cartoon character and see sexual desire? Doesn't that speak more about Jerry Falwell's desires and less about the sexual orientation of the teletubby?

Correction: Juneau Christian Center I went to the AG website itself and it lists JCC as one of its congregations, though JCC doesn't list itself as AG on its own site. Many Christian Centers are non-AG, save for the ones who list "Assemby of God" in their titles. I was wrong about this, looks like many Christian Centers without the AG label are also AG.

A woman I work with told me that she heard a radio program where they interviewed a former gay (recovering gay?). All he had to do was turn his life over to Jeeeeesus and he prayed the gay away. I asked her if this program was on before Rush and she said, matter of factly, that yes it was. And looked at me like I just asked the stupidest question that she had ever heard.
Why couldn't I have been born without common sense and logic? Maybe I should just turn my life over to Jeeeeeesus and pray it away.
