DES MOINES, Iowa -- A new poll on the presidential race suggests Iowa may not be a battleground state this year.

The Des Moines register poll of 801 likely Iowa voters showed Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. John McCain 52 percent to 42 percent.

Iowa had been long considered to be a battleground because of the narrow margins of victory in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections.

Iowa showed up as a red state in the 2004 elections because we were in the middle of the recount when Kerry surrendered.

Yep a lot of smart people living there. I think it's helped that Shawn Crawford is from Des Moines and she was at the DNC convention. They were the first to vote for Obama in the primaries and everybody thought there were just a bunch of hicks there that wouldn't let a "black" guy win. My mom was so happy when he won there because she is from the midwest and she knows that that there are actually a lot of open minded people there.

I come from Atlantic, Iowa. The place is so brain-dead Republican that the last time a Democrat won the Presidential race there was when FDR was running for his first term. And FDR won; just barely.
