Full Version: McCain can't use a computer because he was a POW

On MSNBC just now some blond idiot said that Obama made fun of McCain being computer illiterate but didn't take into account that McCain's fingers aren't as nimble as the rest of us because he was tortured as a POW.

LMAO! It's just become one big joke now.

If McCain wins the election and things get worse than they are now, will his press secretary say everyday "Don't forget, he was a POW and was tortured"?
NEM
How does he sit at one of his many kitchen table and eat? Probably uses his toes. Right? He seems to wave alright when on a stage. And, he saluted his commanding officer with a full and snappy salute when released.
TapDuncan
They will say anything to take the focus off of his incompetence. Rove said it first yesterday, and now they are repeating it.
RandiLover
Rove should be the first to be caught with the butterfly net and prosecuted.

I highly recommend reading the oped, it is stunning.

Well, I have big stiff fingers that don't do what I tell them to, or what I tell them to do is often gibberish. And somehow I muddle through - thank you for spell check.

Gee, I wonder what Stephen Hawking would say about this excuse?

Anyone who claims McCain can't use a computer because of his war injuries is - in essence - calling McCain a liar.

McCain himself says he's using the computer more each day. laugh.gif

Yes, and by struggling a little every day, against his old injuries that noun-verb-POW, his will may yet triumph over his past. His crippled fingers may yet rise again, like the American spirit after 9/11. wink.gif

Um, did you bother to read the story? Nowhere does McCain mention that it's difficult for him to use a keyboard. I realize he has war injuries, but according to the man himself, using the computer is not a problem for him. Don't you believe him?

Yes I did. And also the statements from his camp, as opposed to the brave man himself, that his difficulties in using a keyboard were due to his POW injuries. I was just musing how his camp would reconcile the two, apparently inconsistent, views. My posting was the suggested storyline for how it'll come out.

So apparently Senator McCain isn't a Computer Geek staring at a terminal screen for hours on end. So he doesn't hammer the keyboard and have 20,000 posts on various blogs. So he's not obsessed with the latest gimmick gadgets and killer apps. So Senator McCain has little ambition to be a Computer Nerd.

Here's a question for you. How many of our Presidents have been real computer nerds? How many have even used a computer while in office? Maybe two or three of them .............. ?

ComPuters suck!

funny, but if i were an alien from another planet and read your post i would assume computers are only good for messageboards and playing games

yet, computers are the exclusive domain of the worlds business, all business, including govt business, is done on computers, via email and the internet and in general

and you dont think it important that the person who wants to rule the earth does not know anything about them???

be honest, admit it, mccain doesnt know much about anything at all...it is true and it is ok to admit it

One of my friends had his entire right arm crushed -- and I do mean CRUSHED - in a construction accident under a falling concrete pipe.

You know what he does now?

He's a computer network administrator.

They have entire programs to reorient keyboards so people with limited mobility can type.

McCain's full of shit.

And my Dad's older than he is, and he can use the damn computer.....

Giuliani = Noun, verb, 9/11.

McCain = Noun, verb, POW.

Here's a question for you. Where does anyone here assert the inability to "hammer the keyboard and have 20,000 posts on various blogs [or be] obsessed with the latest gimmick gadgets and killer apps" is a fault of McCain's?

Instead, his ignorance reveals that he's incapable of independently conducting a modicum of research on virtually any subject on his own. He can't do that of which the average 10 year old is capable. He has made himself a captive of that which is clipped and copied to him in print, and hasn't the means to sit down and run down - just for example - the AP wire for himself to see what he has NOT been hearing about.

This is little different from McCain saying he's doesn't know how to read newspapers. he can't figure out to turn the TV on,so he never sees a news report or even a documentary, and so remains oblivious as to what is out there until and unless someone hands it to him on a piece of paper. He may as well have said he isn't quite sure what all the fuss is about dictionaries and encyclopedias, and he really doesn't see any need for them.

Okay, I'll refrain from calling anyone names, but if you went ANYWHERE other than RRMB for your news updates, you would know that this is actually true and was reported as much as 8 years ago - by a liberal writer, no less.
X-Ray-Spex
John McCain can't operate a computer because he's lazy and ignorant and believes that someone else should do that kind of work for him.

Fine qualities for a president. Wouldn't you say so?

So you obviously don't have the staff that most U.S. Senators have, bushwa? No pun intended, by the way. Do you think Senator Obama looks everything up? I doubt he has much time nowadays to spend at a terminal. So what if Senator McCain isn't a computer wiz?

If he wants some facts checked, he can delegate that task to a whole staff of well paid professionals . If he (Senator McCain) has a question, he calls somebody on the phone. He doesn't text.

You write about the average 10 year old, truth be told, many of them would kick our collective over 50 butts in regards to tech savy.

I've sent exactly ONE text message in my entire life.

I don't feel that I have missed a damn thing.

Again, you've tossed out yet another "challenge" for McCain that no one criticized or ridiculed him for failing to undertake. I mean, I get it as a rhetorical flourish and hyperbolic excess, but there is NO ONE saying "Ha-ha. Lame old McCain can't even send a text message!"

Repeatedly engaging in these invented expectations, you attempt to demean and diminish the what is - like it or not - a legitimate concern. What, when Bush faced derision for proudly boasting he didn't read newspapers, were you incredulous about the world's reaction because the CiC doesn't need to perform the Word Jumble, and has no need to review the Labor Day Weekend Sales ad for Sears?

There is no question the CiC has vast resources for information. But if you don't believe a Burger King Manager, a Fortune 500 CEO and, yes, even the President, should exert some effort to learn for themselves what's going on in the world through channels outside the circle of their staff, we disagree. Please stop trying to pretend anyone is maintaining a President should use Google instead of his staff and those other information resources. It only seems foolish, and ANOTHER example of hubris, to so cavalierly and actively chose NOT to employ another available tool - an easily available tool.

And if you think all the questions he should ask, all matters about which he might be prompted to pursue more details and background, will be prompted by that which comes from staff, or will somehow just drift out of his head, we also disagree.

I wonder what GW's staff has told him about testimony and exhibits throughout the Scooter Libby trial compared to that which might have learned about if he'd accessed the internet.

Oh, and amid this debate, let's not forget the point of the thread: MCCain's having been a POW is once again being used as a bullshit excuse. I have a feeling this guy skipped a lot of junior high school gym classes by claiming he had "cramps."

I happened to catch a clip of Glenn Beck last night, and they were looking at the ad where Obama mentions that McCain doesn't know how to use a computer and can't send an e-mail. The, "round table" discussion (featuring Jonah Goldberg and 2 republican strategists) were saying that he can't type an e-mail because his broken arms tire out and he has his wife type on his behalf, and that making fun of it is making fun of McCain's POW history.

I can't seem to find this anecdote anywhere else to confirm.

I don't think that Senator McCain has directly made this claim. In fact I believe he's been pretty honest in stating that he's just not into Computers.

In regards to using the Internet(s) as a source for info, there is sooooo much crap out there, that one has to be very careful. Much more so than with hard copy material.

The Internet is a resource that should come with a disclaimer, use at your own risk.

Hi, I'm John McCain and I spent five years in a POW camp where I didn't have the luxury of computers, my friends.

I also invented the Blackberry.
DonShafer
Whether or John McCain can use a computer is really a moot point. The only one whose life it affects is his own.
Especially when there are so many more important reasons that he should not be President. And that affects everyone's lives.
