I think it's a step in the right direction. The tone and the quality of the campaign needs to be shifted away from R soundbites, and from personality-cult (i.e., Palin this and Palin that) bull crap.

To the extent Obama can start the process of shifting the campaign onto issues themes, he will have succeeded. My sense is that the last few days have been sobering, even for Murkins who are hooked on 'non-reality' teevee.

We'll see.

I really think people aren't even listening to him because I don't understand how you can listen to him talk and not be reassured that he knows what he doing and that he's willing to listen to other people. I've heard people say that he is scary and I truly don't get it. lol

Well the only reason it won't reach some people is because they don't care to listen to what a black liberal has to say. But we already have more people on our side anyway.

Awesome. Excellent choice going with no music, imagery, voice-over, etc. I think he showed himself as really stable, compassionate, intelligent, and prepared. It would be difficult for McCain to make an ad like this without blatantly lying and getting called on it within 20 minutes of it airing. So hopefully, while McCain keeps on with his dishonest smear campaign and ludicrous choice for VP, Obama will look like someone who actually is planning to DO something.

But of course, as others have pointed out, Americans don't necessarily respond to intelligence and compassion - they seem far more motivated by violent rhetoric and insults (as is evidenced by the fact that McCain is supposedly tied with Obama in swing states, on a platform of continuing the worst economic policies of the last 50 years...christ.)...so we'll see.

The polls you reference are hopelessly out-of-date. Keep in mind, last week's big issue was PigPalinLipstick. Simple enough, to be sure, but this week the fact of a failed finncial system is hitting home, whether msm cares to notice or not.

Reality with a capital R is hitting home and is drowning out non-reality teevee, posters.

A smiling face, a hairdo and a soundbite jibe are inadequate for the times. The R side is trapped by its own choice of campaigning style. Foisting upon us a paper-mache candidate and soundbite campaigning is nothing more than ongoing R incompetence and disdain for the importance of good governance.

I liked it. It was him just talking to the voter. No Republican Hollywood studio effects, stupid music or "big movie announcer" voice overs. It was real and it said what needs to be said. I hope it airs in Ohio, PA and Florida. Great ad for the swing states. He needs to be more populist and this is very good. I hope he takes this tone at the Debates.



Sure he is tired. I'm tired also. I'm exhausted from this campaign and it's still not over. The only thing that keeps me going is remembering back in 2001 how much I could not wait for 2008 and the end of the Bush administration...
