I just wanted to alert people to the fact that the Wisconsin Attorney General (who is the co-chair of the McCain campaign in WI) has
".. sued the state Government Accountability Board, seeking to review -- and potentially disqualify -- the names of as many as 1 million eligible voters whose names appear on the state's poll list.

Van Hollen is demanding that the GAB and local clerks cross-check voter names with driver's license records for every Wisconsinite who filed voter registration paperwork on or after Jan. 1, 2006. That includes all new voters and all those in the state who changed their address because of a move."

Here is a link to the story that is in the Capital Times out of Madison http://www...n.com/tct/opinion/305148

(Link doesn't work.)

Oh boy ... here we go again. Winning by not counting votes. Now THAT'S integrity, the American Way, and "putting country first."

Sheesh.

Let's hope the Accountability Board isn't also headed by a partisan Republican.

I really don't understand your voting system .. really, I mean that.

Up here we use paper ballots, and the only identification you need is a single piece of id with an addres on it ... failing that you can use an ID with an address and a recent biil, or failing that you have someone with the proper ID from the same poling station vouch for you ... if you are homeless, you get a note from the local shelter and vote in that polling station.

Even the dead can vote if they can haul their ass out of the grave (Conservatives sometimes register dead people, but for some reason they never show up to the polling station.)

The only controversy on "voter" or "voting" fraud we've had in God knows how many years, was with a provincial Quebec election when one racist group complained that Muslim women didn't have to remove their veils before voting (not much use anyway, as you don't need a photo ID to vote, so showing your face would provide no added value to the identification process.)

We also manage to know the election results, usually a few minutes after the polls close, or if it's really close it takes about 2 hours.

Oh, and recounting is not an issue, the only thing required is the ability to count.

If someone tried to put one of those touch screen things in one of our polling booths there would only be one vote ... and that vote would be represented by a machine laying on the polling station floor smashed into little pieces.

They were trying this "lose your home, lose your vote" shit in Michigan too, but their election law protects them here.

You need to check your local Wisconsin election law for the same sort of passage. I'll try to see if I can find anything when I get a spare moment too.

The photo ID thing is a big problem too. The non-partisan League of Women Voters has estimated that 21 million Americans don't have such ID, and would by that one Jim Crow law alone, be barred from voting:

QUOTE
The following statistics reflect those individuals who do not have photo identification:
  • 11% or as many as 21 million Americans
  • 36% of voters in Georgia over the age of 75
  • 18% of Americans over 65 (6 million)
  • 25% of African Americans
  • 10% of 40 million people with disabilities
  • 15% of low income voters

So of course the law victimizes the most vulnerable. Which is what Republicans do. It's their stock in trade.

Welcome owlhollow! Hopefully we'll get that worked out so that Wisconsin voters aren't disenfranchised.
