If you worked only 4 months doing that, you'd make $32,000 a year! In most rural places, that's middle class! Have two people working that gig, and your family is bringing in $64k a year. That's a good living!

There are people who lived in New Orleans, who made $8,000 a year - TOTAL - and these same Republicans gave them shit for not hopping in the cars they didn't have, and running away from the hurricane.

Well, you have to admit it is confusing if you don't understand that the Republican party doesn't give a rat's ass about any of us, that they only represent big business and that upper 1%. Its hard to figure out why they'd encourage bringing in slave labor when you can't find a job. Especially when they've been whispering in your ear all these years that the reason you can't find work isn't because major corporations have sent all the high paying manufacturing jobs overseas, but because of those brown people south of our border who sneak in here illegally and steal all those "high paying" jobs from good Americans! And now they are telling you that the jobs the brown people work are jobs you won't take, not even at $50 an hour.

Of course their followers are confused! They weren't that bright to begin with and now they have to try to figure this one out.

It is a brutal, brutal job. No one should downplay that. But with this bullshit McCain simply revealed he thinks the toughest job anyone in America has is working McDonald's or in a dry cleaners on a hot summer day. It's what comes from not knowing "real people" over a period of several DECADES.

If you wish to see what repugs are all about, just check out the old videos of Bush talking to his base, making fun of the weapons of mass destruction. The war and the economy was such a joke to them all back then.

Look at how heavily weighted our national employment is to service industries nowadays. Fast food will no longer be a "fall back" occupation when McDonald's, et. al. start downsizing and shutting down stores. Starbuck's has already started. We can't have an economy just selling each other burgers and lattes. The service industry can't exist without a solid manufacturing industry. It cannot stand on its own.

Of course its a brutal job, but how many jobs pay $50 an hour? Seriously, these days if you get $10 an hour, you still can't support yourself let alone a family, but you still have to feel lucky because its more than most jobs are paying.

Its a sad statement on our economy. Supposedly the market is supposed to dictate wages, so where is the rationality in keeping wages so low that your workers can't buy your product?

Oh wait, we aren't manufacturing anything anymore are we.

I was taught that the purpose of building factories in third world countries was to create a new market for your product. Instead, they pay their workers there so little they can't buy the product they make, and they have destroyed the one true marketplace they did have!
